Pine Bluff City Council Holds Up Asbestos Project
In order to make everyone aware about the no use policy of asbestos related products, a recent resolution of asbestos abatement services at the former Southeast Middle School during the Pine Bluff City Council meeting failed.
As per the resolution, the asbestos
abatement really needed the city ned facility at 2001 S. Ohio St. Nabholz
Environmental Services which as earlier scheduled to start the very next day.
But due to the failure of the
council, there was no choice but to interrupt the entire project.
This is what Alexander had to say,
"We could not support the project as she failed to see the investment of $1
million and gave her suggestion that the land needed to be used only for the
commercial property.
As per the William Fells of the
mayor's office, if the project undergoes demolition, it would cost somewhere
around $725,000.
The original cost for removing the
asbestos falls somewhere around $68,000. As per the information, Dirt work to
bring it up to elevation is going to make some added cost to it.
This is what Fells has to say,
"I definitely think bringing in a subdivision will be a good return on the
city's investment because that is going to boost the tax dollars and will bring
in more people and will attract more businesses in that area," he said.
Later Alexander said she agrees to
undergo a subdivision which was promised to have been promoted as a tie up with
the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The latest report says that the city
has already been in touch with some developers who would like to do a
straight-up market rate.
Fells said, "Right now we have already acquired that building. We have already put money into it. Asbestos is the most responsible thing that we can do and to keep moving forward with the project," she said.
